Gelcoat Restoration Abrasives & Wet Sanding
Discs and finishing abrasives for gelcoat restoration ahead of compound—controlled cut of chalk and light defects, plus wet sanding cues when the ticket needs a clean grit ladder before polish.
Gelcoat restoration & wet sanding (light)
- Gelcoat restoration grit to level oxidation before marine compound
- Wet sanding finish steps that set up gelcoat polish cleanly
- Controlled finish sand—avoid burning soft gelcoat
Before compound & polish
Wrong grit wastes time or trenches gelcoat. This aisle stages restoration sanding that hands off to compounds, pads, and machines. For fairing and full repairs, see Mirka abrasives and STARKE sandpaper.
Serious DIY can follow the same ladder. Ships nationwide · Or pick up at MDSC Fort Myers (Jetport).
Frequently asked questions
What grits does Mirka Abralon come in?
Abralon foam grip discs in 6", 5" and 3" come in 180, 360, 500, 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit. The 1.3" disc comes in 360, 500, 1000 and 2000.
Which disc is for heavy stock removal on hard gelcoat?
Mirka Abranet ACE HD in P40, P60 and P80 (5" and 6") uses ceramic grain on an open net for maximum cutting speed. Abranet ACE is for tougher, more demanding sanding on hard gelcoat. STARKE FORGE is built for maximum cut over long production sessions.
How do I check that the last grit's scratches are gone?
Mirka Dry Guide Coat is a powder that makes imperfections and scratches visible. Apply it between grits, sand until it's gone, then move to the next step.
Do I need an interface pad?
On curves and edges, yes. An interface pad (Mirka Interface Pad or STARKE Interface Pad) adds cushion between backing pad and disc so the abrasive follows contours instead of digging edges.
